Known as the first train wreck ever photographed, the 1853 Valley Falls, RI collision involving two Providence & Worcester passenger trains and multiple fatalities instigated major changes to railroad safety and public timekeeping in the U.S. Join Francine Jackson of Brown University to learn more about this tragic yet influential event, the daguerrotype of which "went viral" in its time.
